Just to depress you all throughly...

I went to the ophanage today and it was pretty sad.. There were two newbies... siblings i think. One was about 5 and the other about 2... They were from out in the countryside and could only speack Quencha, which is the indigenous language here... They didn´t know any spanish so that was pretty dificult for them.. Anyway because they were so frightened they just stood by the wall doing nothing... and the sadest thing and they had sores and maybe burns on their faces etc... the little girl had one bleeding sore on her face and patches of skin and hair missing on her scalp... The baby had tons of leasions all over her face and maybe some burn fingers...

Poor little things, they didn´t say a word for the whole 3 hours that i was there and noone was really paying any attention to them... they just stood there silently... i guess it is best just to leave them to aclimatise at their own pace. Anyway i sat with the wee one on my knee for awhile and then took the little girl to the toilet cause she probably didn´t know where it was...

anyway that was sad.. one of the other girls is pregnant and she came up to me and whispered to me if i could go and buy her some wool so she could knit something for the baby... i think she is about 14 maybe... so of course i did, and 3 big balls of baby wool was $3.60c ... a bargin....

So i hope that won´t upset you all too much...

How things can change in 24 hours

So i have some actual news: we have finally found somewhere to stay for awhile... We are moving in with this american guy for a couple of weeks anyway... it is a heaps less than the hotel... so that´s good. We are also going to take a few spanish lessons each... we are still in surce but may have to move soon... due to visas, well i guess that we will work it all out when the time comes...

We will also be giving a few lessons in English and maybe i will get to volunteer at an orphanage... sounds crazy i know but will keep you all in the loop...

Oh, i will have to get some pics of our new place sometime, for now this is a pic of Sucre

AHHHHH! Bolivia

Well me and tim are fine but have hit a bit of a brick wall re staying in bolivia... the autorities here say as we are NZers we can only have 30 day visa on arrival and then 2, 30 day extensions for 35$ each person each time... so then after that i think we are out! so we are just having thoughts as to what to do... it looks like we will head back to argentina but before that we will maybe stay for a month or so and try and chill out from all the travelling...

Oh and by the way Tim takes back the "dull" comment

Sucre

Alrighty...

after a 15 hour bus ride in a non-cama bus... ie, just crapping old normal as bus, we got to Sucre on a very bummy rock rode.. we had two puntures which slowed us down a bit... Now we are in Sucre and we were going to stay but really Tim doesn´t like it... It is "dull"... oh well never mind i guess.. travel on i say... anyway we will be here for a few days...

Yesterday i decided to be brave and wear my new Tarija skirt out and about in Sucre... Well that caused a little stir in down-town Sucre....

Here are some pics of me in my skirt - now i know i don´t look the best but we are meant to be looking at the cool skirt right...

Tarija

So then we stayed in a town called Tarija, which after a bit of warming to it, me and Tim both liked it...

the native women there wear these really cool skirts and i fell in love with them...
they are so cute cause even the really old women wear them and they are only knee lenght. Tim was quite embarrased cause he kept eyeing up these old women legs and thinking... man those are some good legs...

anyway we went to a river and i had a swim which was really nice, tim went up to his knees, we were really were both really proud of that... for those of you that don´t know he has an adversion to large bodies of water.... not that you could tell from this pic

The crossing to bolivia

HI,

so i have been a bit slack and also it is hard to find a computer here with a pen drive... so here goes. When we first came over to Bolivia, we had to get on a wee boat like this one then cross the river to the Bolivian shore... trouble was there was no immigration on the other side, we had to walk around a bit then get a taxi down to the immigration office... bolivia is a strange one i tell you...

____ito means small

so we crossed the river into Bolivia and there was no immagration.. we just had to go and look for some down the road somewhere or other so that we could get a stamp in our passport...

Anyway after awhile we realised that all these bloody spots had begun to appear on us... it was weird cause they we still bleeding even though the bug had come and gone...

I asked what they were from to this girl, and she said oh... eso es los mosquies... note no ito on the end of that one....

Crazy turtle

oh yeah,

while we were in Mendoza we went to an aquarium...

and apart from having a giant sea turtle in quite a small tank, they also had this.....

I bet he is glad he has a shell

Argentina

Hi all,

thought it was about time i uploaded some more pics.. so here they are... first of all the mountains on the way from chile to argentina... then a pic of the bed-bus that we took for 20 hours between Mendoza and Salta... there is me lying down in the bus having a wee sleep.... it was a crazy experience as they served us food and wine etc. and we played bingo on the bus to win a bottle of wine but neither me or tim won. then because we were in first class we had some champagne... and there were only two other guys in first class and they asked me if me and tim were brother and sister and i said no we are married. and tim the big oaf said. are we i didn´t know that. so the men thought that that was really funny.... so we toasted to me and tim´s new marriage.. then i managed to sleep for about 10 hours which was really really good. i am sure that that was the best bus ride of my life.

So salta is good and we like it alot, we think we will stay a few more days cause we like it... anyway here is a pic of a moth that i saw on the sidewalk. Not much else... I brought a new pair of shoes so i will get a pic of them in a few days...

Very sad really...
Was it possibly the curse of the pirate?????

So I guess we have to move to Brasil to keep world cup hopes alive...

I was just watching argentina in the world cup and it was pretty sad... when argentina scored a goal you could hear the world outside my hotel room go crazy... as you can image when the penality shoot out began it got very quite and then silence for ages afterwards... poor argentina and they played the better game too i thought... oh well hopefully it won´t mean riots here...

we are well by the way and are heading up to a city called salta tonight.. we are going on a bus that takes approx. 20 hours and we have seats that recline back 180 degrees into real beds... and they feed us and everything... should be way fun....
I´m gonna put some pics on of this bus thing as soon as i can.

Tim just arrived back from the pub... he is sad... and said he just saw a man crying his heart out on the street...

oh here is a wee pic of my babies... Miso on left, Brian Lara on right... Buddha in the middle
